Agreed about dirty utensils and unhygienic food handlers. See what'd happened at Geylang Serai Rojak.
To minimise the risk of food contaminations while having meals outside, I will go for CzeChar (taipaitong), fried noodles, soup noodles.
Any ready cooked meals such as nasi lemak, chicken rice, mixed vegy rice are lasts on my list of outside makan2. _________________ :>)WAGWAG:>)

Let's go from stall to stall starting from the Indian Rojak stall.
Indian Rojak stall - Typical sarabat stall selling a variety of Indian Muslim food. The order taker is very friendly but at times can forget about your orders. I've only tried their pratas and Indian rojak and they are satisfactory. Owner of the stall seems to be a Chinese old lady though.
Roast Duck Rice stall - The current one sux. Used to be a good one with newspaper cuttings but they've changed hands. Rice pretty soggy. No wow factor about this stall.
Tze Cha stall - Seldom order from them due to a horrible barbecue sambal stingray from them couple years ago. Recently ordered sweet & sour pork rice. Ok lah, so so.
Mixed Rice stall - Good variety of dishes but rice can be pretty soggy at times. Curry chicken not so nice but the rest are satisfactory. Friendly order takers.
Yong Ta Hu stall - The soup base is quite nice (guess because of the MSG), never tried their curry version of YTH but overall ok. Friendly female order taker.
Chicken Rice and Western stall - Chicken rice is indeed up to standard. I like the fact that they add acar to it. Big portion yes and very friendly young boy who takes order and cut up chicken! Western also no complaints Chicken cutlet is nice.
That infamous Nasi Lemak/Ecomonic Bee Hoon stall - Was one of those stalls that underwent some cooking lessons from that variety show by Kym Ng and QYF. Personally I didn't think it was any good and I really hope those variety shows should regularly test their food up according to their standards otherwise strip off those celeb chef signatures and articles. I don't know what the stall owners learned from that show but nothing was good. The sambal is horrible, like they just throw in the ikan bilis after they fry the sambal. The taste os sambal is also not consistent. The selections for nasi lemak is too little and not appetising. Chicken wings are the worst. I mean the 3 most important ingredients in nasi lemak are the rice, the sambal and the chicken wings and they didnt have any.
The bee hoon is not tasty. Their mee goreng is so far the most edible item but a lil too sweet for mee goreng. Ok, I know it's Chinese style but still, TOO SWEET. Solemn female order taker.
Mince Meat Noodles stall - Good! The ah peks are very experienced and knows their orders correctly. Noodles are at the right texture. I've always eat without chilli but with ketchup base, still taste extremely tasty. And I noticed that when you buy packed dry noodles, the ah peks will give it a lil more gravy so that by the time you reached home, the noodles won't be so dry.
Fish Soup/Ban Mian stall - Never tried their ban mian but their sliced fish soup is satisfactory. Fried fish kinda lose out and the portions are quite little. Other than that, friendly order takers.
Kway Chap/Pig Organs stall - Kwap chap is not bad, organs are quite fresh. Friendly order takers. Should be husband and wife owners.
Vegetarian stall - A large variety of dishes, bee hoon melts in your mouth. So far, their food is always piping hot. But it always keeps me wondering since they have so many dishes, and by the time they close for the day, did they sell everything off or keep the leftovers for next day and refried and reheat again? Cos their food always looks good.
Drinks stall - Mostly china national drinks order takers but they are very friendly and so far, orders for me were taken correctly. However there is one local lady can be blur at times. The dim sum aunties also ok and the dim sums are those typically Koufu/Kopitiam dim sums. Nothing fantastic.
The overall environment for Fernvale coffeshop - What can I say? We are smacked right at the end of deserted Sengkang West and can't really complain much but to have that same chicken rice, fish soup and Yong tau hu every now and then.
Above are my personal experience and opinions about their food. Please feel free to add or argue. Thanks. |

Never tried the rojak, but the prata so so only. Mutton soup completely CMI.
Roast Duck Rice stall - The current one sux. Used to be a good one with newspaper cuttings but they've changed hands. Rice pretty soggy. No wow factor about this stall.
My opinion is that this one is better the previous one. I usually order the soup. No complaints so far.
Tze Cha stall - Seldom order from them due to a horrible barbecue sambal stingray from them couple years ago. Recently ordered sweet & sour pork rice. Ok lah, so so.
One of the better stalls around. Their yee mee, sheng mian, HK mee are my favourite. Their tze cha also not too bad.
Mixed Rice stall - Good variety of dishes but rice can be pretty soggy at times. Curry chicken not so nice but the rest are satisfactory. Friendly order takers.
Eat at your own risk. Far too many times I've seen the cook with a cigarette in his mouth and cooking at the same time. Also, they prepare the food at the roadside (at the back) - squating on the pavement, doing it on the floor. Sometimes with puddles of waters nearby. You get the picture....
Yong Ta Hu stall - The soup base is quite nice (guess because of the MSG), never tried their curry version of YTH but overall ok. Friendly female order taker.
Cheaper than most foodcourt... while minimum is 7 pcs, the noodle count as one item. So usually 6 pcs + noodle/bee hoon only $2.80, as compared to the $4-$5 at food court. Taste not too bad, so this is the most patronize stall for me.
Chicken Rice and Western stall - Chicken rice is indeed up to standard. I like the fact that they add acar to it. Big portion yes and very friendly young boy who takes order and cut up chicken! Western also no complaints Chicken cutlet is nice.
Yup, not too bad.

4 words - not worth the price.
Mince Meat Noodles stall - Good! The ah peks are very experienced and knows their orders correctly. Noodles are at the right texture. And I noticed that when you buy packed dry noodles, the ah peks will give it a lil more gravy so that by the time you reached home, the noodles won't be so dry.
Agree. Overall not too bad.
Fish Soup/Ban Mian stall - Never tried their ban mian but their sliced fish soup is satisfactory. Fried fish kinda lose out and the portions are quite little. Other than that, friendly order takers.
Agree. Overall not too bad also. You should try their fried hokkien mee - quite nice.
Kway Chap/Pig Organs stall - Kwap chap is not bad, organs are quite fresh. Friendly order takers. Should be husband and wife owners.
Only tried the kwap chap once. Didn't like it the first time, so have not tried it again since. But maybe will try again.
Overall not too bad, but I find it very expensive.
Koufu franchise... okay lah... But I really like the taste of koufu's coffee.
The overall environment for Fernvale coffeshop - What can I say? We are smacked right at the end of deserted Sengkang West and can't really complain much but to have that same chicken rice, fish soup and Yong tau hu every now and then.
Compared to other coffee shop, there is a wide variety of food. Most of the stalls are opened most of the time. Used to be very warm inside, but the recent improvements made it much better. Plenty of outdoor seating, so even peak hours also can easily find a seat. Guess that is a plus point over the rest of the foodcourt whereby usually have to jostle for seats, especially for large families. Plenty of baby chairs too. From me, overall, pass.

I am a very regular customer of Koufu. When I was buying chicken rice I saw the Fat guy punching and slapping the small boy and scold vulgarity at him. This has happen many time.Out of curiousity I kay po with some of my friends there and they told me the western food chef is not the owner but work for him.there were time they don't even bother to stop the fat guy from hurting the little boy.I wonder how they are able to tolerate such evil boss.Recently I am glad that the boy is not around anymore but i still see him scoldiing the young lady now and there was once throwing the chopper on the chopping board area and the young lady cry and run away.Back to the chicken rice. The rice is OK but the chicken always not well cook.Western food worst, there is always a stench on the poultry especially the chicken wings, chicken chop etc.Food not nice can be excuse but will not support this kind of bad and bullying person. You can go and check it out by sitting near thier stall. |

The boy seems nice and if I'm not wrong, he seems to have a hearing aid on one of his ears. I mean if the fat slob really bullies him, then he deserved deep fried like a chicken cutlet!
No wonder I don't see the young boy nowadays... |

So far, only eaten there twice. Duck rice was horrid, chicken rice (with achar) was ok.
Abt the slapping issue. Maybe the boy is related to the boss? But slapping in public is too mean! tsk tsk.....
ok, next time if I were to eat there again, I shall observe the fat man. Still not sure exactly which stall, lol. |

The Nasi Lemak/Bee Hoon stall..the one which got on TV...I do not understand why people will queue up for it. It's not very good, nor bad.
But a bit on the expensive side. Maybe it;s was on TV and people were curious..
I only ate it twice. Once before the TV thing, and another after.
Probably will not do so again.. |
totally agreed with you |
